If The Homeless Get Housing, It Means Capitalism Fails

Capitalism unchecked is a survival of the fittest type of economy. If Mayor Jim Kenney gives abandoned houses to the homeless, it would require breaking the system. Our nations laws value property above human lives. Giving homes to those in need would cripple an economy built on property ownership.

But this economy is crippling itself. 1 in 5 participants in the United States economy will be evicted from their homes by the end of next year according to data from Aspen Institute. This is a moral crisis for our nation. If anything, that discrepancy in class politics shows that the system is collapsing and broken. So defending it is completely useless.

Mayor Kenney, if in the next year, the system collapses what would be the point of bulldozing down a camp and spending thousands in overtime, when you know that money could buy restrooms? Housing is failing. My friend in real estate was laid off today. We are watching the economy consolidate itself with mortgage foreclosures looming. Lets damage control, and offer more resources because temporary shelter, is not going to cut it this time next year. The wave of economic failure is coming. Let’s save lives with homes, not an auditorium of a repurposed high school building filled with 300 beds. Let’s cancel rent. Let’s forgive the debt burden of past due rent and utilities for 1 year until after covid-19 is over. Let’s build publicly owned properties and offer income based rent rather than price out workers. This is in your power. You could be the hero but you are the villain right now. Your unwillingness to say no to using tear gas to the reporters question earlier is outright inhumane. You’re a fascist who doesn’t value human lives if you do this.

People are insecure. You are displacing them with big housing projects, aid to big real estate, and ignorance to homelessness and gentrification. Cutting .4% of the police budget would double the housing budget. We can fix homelessness. But there is a complete refusal to abandon capitalism. Mayor Kenney will ride with the big real estate capitalists and the pig brigade until the day he dies. But Mayor Kenney, you have been warned. If you evict any of the camps forcefully with your armed goons in PPD and PHA to process them at 22nd district for major crimes, the people may evict you from your home at 301 Race Street, forcefully.
